The night before they arrived - the left side of my neck to the back of my ear began to hurt again. I don't remember if I have already posted that on my blog or not, but for the past week at night/morning I have had a sharp pain going from my left shoulder/neck to the back of my ear. My hopes were that it was finally gone after resting more, but that night it came back with a vengeance! It began to be a 9 out of 10 pain that spread all around the bag of my head. I could not find a position that would alleviate the pain. It also came with nausea that accompanied my throwing up off and on for 2 hours.
My poor didi around 4:30 asked if I was sick and brought me hot water to drink. Amazingly, it made my nausea feel much better! The pain finally started dissipating after 6 hours experiencing a 9 out of 10. Morning still brought nausea until about 9:00. PC ended up being unable to visit the volunteer before me due to roads being closed so they came to my site a little earlier. After their visit, I went with them back to the capital and made my way to see the doctor in a bigger city. I was still experiencing a headache, but the pain had changed to an ache as opposed to the sharp, piercing pain that I have been experiencing previously.
Long story short, after a couple of trips to see the doctor and talking more with the PC docs - they are fairly certain I am having muscle/skeletal pain. I have been given muscle relaxers to take for the next few days. Since this is a new medicine for me and my body is sensitive to medicines - I am staying today to see how my body reacts and will most likely be going back to site tomorrow. I will be turning around a few days later to go on a trip around Nepal with a friend...but that is something I haven't been thinking about much as I have been trying to feel better.
One of the doctors asked me what I thought was going on with my pain. I suggested it was possibly due to me being on a Nepali diet for the last couple years and my body no longer has much vitamins and minerals in store so my muscles are in protest. She immediately shot that down as not a possibility, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was a contributing factor 'cause nutrients are a huge part of muscle function! That is certainly one thing I have been learning from this experience! If you are not getting a balanced diet - after awhile, you do not feel like yourself.
This might be my shortest post I've written! lol Hope y'all are well and I'll keep you posted on my last few months in Nepal. I calculated out the weeks I have left at site since there are a couple more times I'll need to go to KTM for meetings. Crazy to think I have only 2 months left living in village!! YIKES! lol
