It’s completely normal to be walking by a wedding and being asked to come join it. At this wedding, my friend and I were told we were to eat, dance, and talk only in English.
Story - We were walking up her 2 hour hike to her house and about halfway into it - a gentleman she had talked to once called us to participate in his son’s wedding. We decided to stop for a few minutes. They served us some food and had given me a plate with beans. My friend swapped plates with me because she is vegetarian and her plate pretty much only had rice and meat. I was mostly full from my own meal not too long ago so I was eating a little of what I could, including a couple pieces of meat. My friend had pushed away some meat on her own plate to get the beans and discovered raw spots. I then looked at my own and saw raw meat as well!
We gave them our plates shortly after that saying we were full. Then - it was my friend’s turn to dance. Just as it was my turn - the electricity went out so no music could be played! :) This gave us an opportunity to continue on our way to her house to build a cookstove. As we got back onto the main road towards her house, the electricity came back on. Perfect timing!
It is not a good idea to eat meat outside the houses of your own, other volunteers, or restaurants because some pieces could still be raw.
Eating cooked meat near some raw pieces can cause nausea for over 12 hours.
I am allergic to something after all. A couple plants make my foot swell and itch a little.
I need to take a baby Benadryl. A full one takes over 16 hours to get out of my system and a half one takes about 14 hours.
My body requires some food in it prior to taking a half Benadryl otherwise my stomach comes up - thus taking it early to stop me from being so groggy in the morning is not an option.
If your stomach comes up the night before, tea and water is only what you get in the morning.
American men are not seen as being able to be faithful to a girlfriend when she is gone for 2 years, even though he may be in graduate school (which I’m assuming is much more involved than a bachelor’s program).
Pepto Bismol can help with nausea. Don’t know how true that is, but it says on the box and I’ll try it sometime maybe. With my body however, you never know what a medication will do!
When you mention you have been nauseated, even though you communicate why - the conclusion is it is because you had/were cold.
There is Turkish food available and it tastes just like my favorite restaurant in Australia.
Don’t attempt to communicate in Nepali unless you know how to say what you want. You could find yourself freaking out that a goat was killed for you because you mentioned “meat” and “cooked/uncooked”.
Nepalis often say you want something when it is them that really want it. Thus any disjointed conversation can result in them thinking you want/are something.
Story - I watched a 4 year old chew happily on a piece of raw chicken in front of adults. Once I thought I had figured out how to ask if that was ok (even though it must have been because the mom only stopped her wjem it fell on the floor) I discovered that did not understand and had meat that night. I thought I asked if the goat had been killed today and got a positive response to which I was afraid they had taken to meaning I wanted to eat meat that night. The next morning, the same goat that has been walking around the day before was still alive and walking. I had worried for nothing!
Have any pain? Rub in mustard seed oil.
Dahl baht power is NOT 24 hour. Depending on your metabolism, it can last 20 minutes to 2 hours. Not sure what I fall into, but after 1 - 2 hours I get sleepy enough to sleep sitting up even though I have had 8-10 hours of sleep.
If you yawn or fall asleep in the day and you’re not sick - you’re lazy.
Negative numbers in your prescription means your eyes are weak. Positive numbers means your eyes are strong…even though you still need to wear corrective lenses.
Vitamin A is good for your eyes and strengthens them. I didn’t just learn that here, but apparently eating it often is going to get my eyes not as bad. I have had plenty of Vitamin A in my diet while in the States and it has not helped, but who knows…
On a more random note, I have discovered more just how small the world is. While in a city as I was walking, I ran into an old coworker of mine from when I worked in Australia! I knew he was going to be in Nepal, but I just have not been able to connect to the internet much and had not had the opportunity to try to connect with him. Just as I was about to leave the city, there he was! It was his last day there too before traveling to another country. I talked about a mile a minute so while he is caught up on me, I haven’t heard everything he has been up to. However, we may be able to connect just before he leaves to go home and this time he’ll be the one talking!
P.S. Can anyone explain to me why in Howl’s Moving Castle, Sophie’s spell isn’t exactly completely removed? She no longer has a hunched body, but still has the gray hair. I mean, it’s better than the ending of Princess Mononoke, but I wonder why that isn’t addressed.
