The Peace Corps goal of the Food Security program is to improve lives of resource poor farmers and families. I will work with a Nepali counterpart to achieve this through integrating the Global Health Initiative and Feed the Future programs in the community where I will live. This will involve me creating programs that focus on improved nutrition, increased food production, encourage low tech food production, and small animal husbandry.
The Global Health Initiative goal is to improve the nutritional status of women and children under 2 through increased homestead food production, improved water, sanitation, and hygiene. The Feed the Future goal is to sustainably reduce poverty and hunger by achieving inclusive growth in the agriculture sector, increasing farm families income, and improving nutritional status.
All of this can translate into this synopsis: I will show the Nepali people how to do more farming variety with what they have, which will in turn help with their nutrition and income. There is also a focus on empowering women and youth to recognize the community needs and take action to address them. Essentially, while helping others - I will be encouraging others in the community to do what I am so when I do leave 24 months later (3 months I'm in training), things can continue.
I hope this gives everyone a better idea of what I will be doing! It certainly helped me as I took the time to not only read through all the information sent, but also compile it together. Now, it's time for me to finish up my classes! I will post my next steps in the process after I get through with school! I hope everyone has a great day and please comment if I need to clarify anything!
